Hi Andy

If you remember our little discussion regarding the best camera under 20 grands (minus lenses) where you had mentioned that your pick would be Sony F3......is indeed the best solution. If the Sony F3 is connected to a dual link HD SDI nano recorder (Gemini) it supports an uncompressed recording of 4:4:4....which holds the capacity to record at 1080/60p as well. So if we list down the pro goodies that we get with a combination of  F3 (Sony) & Gemini (Convergent Design) which comes to an approx 20 grands are:

a) 35 mm Sensor with PL Mount

b) Pro 4:2:2 & 4:4:4/10 bit uncompressed recording

c) 1080/60p

Any other camera which supports such specs is worth 50-100 grands or higher according to my knowledge. The Red One Epic does a 4:2:2 at super HD but needs a additional Red Rocket to enhance it to 4:4:4 (which is an expense)....in fact Red One accessories are frightfully expensive and the tolal Red package usually exceeds 50K (do correct me if I'm worng).

Now I'm left with two questions and request you to help me out:

1) Which is a better quality.....Sony F3 @ 4:4:4 HD 'or' Red One @ 3 to 4k resolution at 4:2:2 ?........(logically F3 @ 4:4:4 is better)

2) How do we handle uncompressed formats in Final Cut Pro ?

Regards

Again, if the next Canon 5D comes out with a HD SDI output (even 4:2:2 capacity) it'll kill the camcorder market....:)
